Skills/USA 2006-07

The carpentry program had five students sign up for the Skills/USA carpentry contest. Only one student can go to the State Championships in Bangor later in the school year. The only way to determine who goes is by having an in-house competition and letting first place represent MCST. Each student has to take a written test and then they all have to build the same structure, according to the blueprint. There are judges chosen before the contest starts to keep all things fair. The day before the contest, one student was in a minor car accident so he was not able to compete. The students were given three hours to build their stucture and the one that did the most accurate job, according to the blueprints , was declared the winner. It was a great competition and I was proud of the hard work and finished product of each student. The winner will have a great opportunity to place in the top three in the State's. He might even surprise everyone and win! Wouldn't that be something.
