Done for the Day.

All of the panels are up and tomorrow a crew will do the rest of the bits and pieces necessary for the trusses which arrive next week. I plan on taking all of the students to the fairgrounds to watch the trusses go up. It should be a fun day with lots of food and photos. Posted by Picasa

The Last Panel

The last panel went up eight hours after the first panel. Not bad for a days work. It was very pleasing to see the students hard work in the classroom go into place with only a few minor alterations. Posted by Picasa

The First Panel

Today was the start of installing all of the panels for the 40x120 foot building for the Union Fairgrounds in Union, Maine. This was a Saturday so it was all volunteer community members and no students ( for some reason). I got there just in time to watch the first panel go into place. It was cold and windy with a fifty percent chance of rain. As the morning wore on, more helped arrived, more panels went up and the rains held off. There was plenty of hot coffee and willing hands. Posted by Picasa

It's Friday!

The goal was to have the floor decked over by the end of the day and we made it. On Monday we should have all of the walls up and possibly some exterior sheathing. We'll see. Posted by Picasa

Installing Floor Joists

Everybody is busy(almost) with the new 12x20 storage barn. It won't take long to finish the floor with this crew. Posted by Picasa

The Start of a New Project

We haven't even said good-bye to the 40x120 project and the material arrives for our next building. A 12x20 foot storage barn. This will be a fun project because the class will get to do the entire project. The first thing is to cut 6x6 skids to set the building on. Stay tuned. Posted by Picasa

Done!

After 13 days of school/ work, 200 plus wall studs, 2,300 plus feet of wall strapping, over 150 pounds of nails, 2,880 feet of 1x12 pine boards with batten strips, and 320 feet of walls built, the 40x120 foot building is finished. I am very proud of my students for the hard work that went into this project. We all look forward to going to the Union Fairgrounds and watching the trusses being installed. I will keep you posted on the progress of the building. Posted by Picasa
